Juggling between work and family

Dear valuable customers of The Magic Oven,

As some of you may notice, my operating hours at The Magic Oven have been irregular in the recent weeks. Working from 11am to 10pm is seriously no joke but as much as I try my best to stick to my opening hours, I’m also trying to strike a balance between my work and my family.

Given that I’m still very much a one-woman show, if I can’t be at the shop, I will have to close it as I couldn’t get someone in time to help me during this period.

When I said I’m trying to juggle between my work and my family, I’m re-calculating my current priorities in life. As I may have explained to some of my regular customers, my mum has been ill for quite a while and recently, her condition has worsened. Thus, being the eldest child in the family, I have to help share the burden of watching over her with my dad at the hospital.

Many times when I was at the shop, I felt so guilty for not being able to be with her. At the end of the day, business has to go on. Also, because the shop had just opened not too long ago, having irregular operating hours do reflect badly on the business as well. To add on to the negativity, I’m still paying for the electricity and rent even when the shop is closed! There are way too much on my shoulder right now.

So dear customers, if you are reading this and wonder why I haven’t been around in the Bishan neighborhood recently, I sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused to you. I sincerely seek for your understanding.

BUT luckily, I have a great bunch of good friends who are so thoughtful asking me how they can help me tie over these difficult times. To start, my best buddy, Ashvin, has already offered his time to help me while I’m with my mum. I can never say enough of this but THANK YOU! So if you happened to walk by the shop and see a tall, dark and handsome Indian young chap inside, he’s Ashvin. ;)

At times like this, we’ll then discover what makes a true friend. Thank you Kannan, Ashvin, Adelene, Li Gen, Sebastian, Clare, Yu Li, Matt, Pearl and Jasmine for all your encouragement, support and help offered to me. I’m so touched to have friends like all of you in bad times like this. :_)

I know the road is never ending and we still have to look forward to the better days ahead. I will hang on tight.

I would like to end this post with a quote that was emailed to me by Pearl:
“Life isn’t always smooth sailing, so when a big change occurs in your life it forces you to change direction. Sometimes the new path may not be easy, but you can be absolute certain that there is magnificence for you on the new path. When we look back at a negative event that occurred in the past, we often see how in fact it transformed our life. We see how that event directed us towards a life that we would not change for anything.”

Thank you.
