I went to the Singapore zoo last Sunday and brought home a sense of admiration to the people who would give up anything to help the animals. Although this is not my first trip to the zoo this year, I noticed a reading board that I have never seen before. This board is located near the penguins enclosure. It was demonstrating the effects on oil spills in the sea and how animals are affected by the rubbish we disposed into the water. Next to it were photos on volunteer works to save these animals which had made me admire these volunteers who would put the animals first before anything else. These people actually exist, hidden from the eyes of the public, doing what they are so passionate about – the animals.

The Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (ACRES) was founded by a group of Singaporeans and registered as a society on 24th May 2001. ACRES aims to:
Foster respect and compassion for all animals.
Improve the living conditions and welfare of animals in captivity.
Educate people on lifestyle choices which do not involve the abuse of animals and which are environment-friendly.
