Sugar-Free Mooncakes

Baked egg-free, dairy-free and sugar-free, this guilt-free mooncake is suitable for all people, especially those with special dietary needs.

As Mid Autumn Festival is around the corner… soon. It’s time to gather your contacts list and send them a gift this festival. Comparing to the past years of alternative flavours usually wrapped in high sugar and high calories content, they are no longer a novelty.

May I suggest that you to start making a difference this year by sending your appreciation in a more caring way?

This year, Delcie’s is pleased to introduce you to our Egg-free, Dairy-Free, Sugar-Free mooncakes. Our mooncakes are suitable for the vegans, vegetarians, people with dairy & egg allergies and the diabetic patients. Plus, we’re a halal bakery which makes it even easier to introduce it to your company for bulk purchase as a gift to your clients.

Because traditional baked mooncakes are never out of fashion. With our breakthrough in egg-free, dairy-free and sugar-free baking techniques, mooncakes now can be sinlessly good too. Now, your clients, family and friends would love you more, because you take charge to take care for their well-being, especially during this festive season.

To be upfront with you, although we use organic flour for the baked skin, we are not marketing it in such a way as the main content which is the fillings is 80% of the total weight. Given such, it’s not exactly 100% organic as the fillings is not organic.

For only SGD68 per box of 4, it comes in a mix of 2 very unique flavours:

  • Pure White Lotus with Black Sesame
  • Natural Pandan Lotus with Salted Mung Bean

This combination of the flavours has been carefully thought of and developed to give that rich and exploding, yet complimenting taste that lingers in your mouth without feeling “too sweet”.

What makes our mooncake so special compared to the hotel’s variety of mooncakes?

  1. It’s LOW in cholesterol, using NO egg but Black Sesame and Mung Bean to replace the egg content, we increase more health benefit for you to enjoy.
    • Sesame seeds contain sesamin and sesamolin, substances that is believed to prevent high blood pressure and protect the liver against damage.
    • Sesame seed is a good source of Vitamin E, that is why it can help strengthen the heart and the nervous system. <http://hubpages.com/hub/Health_Benefits_of_Sesame_Seed>
    • Mung beans are also high in fibre, low in saturated fat, low in sodium, and contain no cholesterol.  Because of the wide range of nutrients contained in mung beans, they offer a whole host of health benefits for the immune system, the metabolism, the heart and other organs, cell growth, protection against free radicals, and diseases such as cancer and diabetes. <http://www.naturaltherapypages.com.au/article/mung_beans>
  2. We DO NOT use any diary in our mooncakes. This is exception a good choice for people who can’t take milk or who are lactose intolerance.
    • Do you know that the cholesterol content of 1 glass of milk is equal to what one would get from 18 slices of bacon! Do you know of any doctor who recommends that much of bacon every day?
    • The protein lactalbumin has been identified as a key factor in diabetes. This is also a major reason for NOT giving cows milk to babies.
  3. We are Sugar Free! Using no cane sugar at all, we are able to achieve the same great taste of lotus paste without compromising on your weight!
    • Using only less than 1 teaspoon of sweetener in each big piece of mooncake i.e. less than 1gram per mooncake serving, you’ll be surprised by the natural taste of our hand-grounded white lotus and our pandan paste.
    • This is extremely suitable for those who are afraid of the super sweet taste of traditional mooncakes!
  4. Although traditionally baked and non-comparable to the variety of snowskin mooncakes offered by the hotels, our Delcie’s mooncake is one that you will not get sick of.
  5. Paying for what is worth, our mooncake is definitely VALUE FOR MONEY.
    • Some may think our mooncake is expensive but how do you know what goes behind the production of the cheaper mooncakes? There is always a reason why organic or healthier food are at least twice as expensive as mass produced food. The time and effort to hand grown organic food take twice and even more effort to produce and farm. We read so much into bad food vs. good food, knowing that some kills, while others are breaking down your system slowly without your knowledge. Like the saying goes: “Your food shall be your medicine or your poison.” You can make that right choice today because at Delcie’s, we believe that cakes and desserts can be sinlessly good too.

At Delcie’s, our mission is to advocate healthier choice and to do that, we bake cakes and desserts which you normally think would be unhealthy, to become SIN-FREE! If given a choice, would you make that difference to yourself, your family and your friend’s lives by introducing a healthier choice to their diet? Start advocating and surprise them today with our tasty mooncakes but less the guilt.

Hi, is the mooncake suitable to diabetes patient?

  • Delcie
    August 27, 2010

    Hi Joan,

To answer your question, yes, they are suitable.
We do not put any cane sugar in our mooncakes., instead, the mooncake is lightly sweeten by Maltitol which is low in GI and highly suitable for the diabetic people. Per mooncake, we used less than 1 teaspoon of Maltitol. So per serving size is less than 1g of sweetener. We tried as much to use natural flavour of the lotus itself without using too much of the sweetener. So given the minimal amount of sweetener used in our mooncake, it is safe to say eating 1 slice of the mooncake wouldn’t have much of an effect to your body. No matter what, I always advocate “moderation” to anything you put into your body.

    Hope this explanation helps! :)

I’m pretty concern about the calorie content for a single mooncake, as regular ones with tons of sugar are about 700 calories per cake, how much does one of the sugarfree contain?

  • Delcie
    September 12, 2010

    Dear Lara,

I would not be able to provide you with accurate information on the calories count.

When you refer to regular ones, are they the traditional white lotus without eggs or are they with eggs?

Because we have to compare apple to apple thus, all I can tell you is that in our sugar free mooncake, besides using organic unbleached flour, we use monounsaturated oil (not lard/ghee/shortening), no sugar, no eggs, instead we use sesame and green bean which are both good source of dietary fiber as compared to high in saturated and cholesterol salted egg yolk.

At the end of the day, I would still promote moderation instead of eating the entire mooncake at one go.

    Hope this explanation helps :)
