Afterall, I’ve never done this before and this was my first attempt. Wearing a mask, putting on a glove and walking in and out of the kitchen to talk to customers were simply the first-hand experience of running a cafe.

I had to learn to speak to the customers, to do a sale pitch and to convince them why they should try our desserts and finally listening to their feedback. 

I’m so grateful to Joycelyn, owner of Gone Fishing, who accommodated us and allowed our event to be held in her cafe. I would definitely agree that holding our event there was indeed more fun and happening.

Surprisingly, it was also less tiring as compared to entertaining our guests back at Sanctuary Green Condo.

Our lucky draw winner, Alvin Chia. It was such a coincidence that I bumped into him 2 weeks ago at Takashimaya after not keeping in contact for 11 over years! We’ve been trying to arrange for a get-together with some of our other ex-classmates but everyone is so busy with their work and life to catch up with eachother. I was really thankful that he managed to rush down to our event right after his class and even brought 3 gorgeous Korean ladies to our party.

There he was standing right behind me. As generous as he is, he gave up his prize to the next lucky person in line. How nice of him. =) Without saying, everybody else was secretly elated and wished the next person he drew would be him/her.

And finally announcing the lucky winner! Alvin Chia! He won a trip for himself to self-indulgence at his own comfort. 

The prize was a full box of Delcie’s Desserts with our latest flavour, Dark Knight (oreo), all come in large size cups. =D The Korean ladies that he brought with him couldn’t stop taking photos of our desserts. =P

This is our common friend, Cindy, who brought the renuion of both Delcie’s Desserts and Gone Fishing Cafe together. Thank you so much!!!

It was a sun-kissed day at Warren Golf & Country Club Family Day. The theme this year was Food Fiesta and over 800 visitors were expected. We set up our booth at about 10 in the morning amidst over 30 other food-related stalls. Every booth had something yummy to offer and it was hard to resist eating.

The crowd slowly trickled in and only flooded in around 3pm. In the meantime, we took a walk around, made friends with neighbouring booths in an attempt to check out the competition.

Mid-afternoon came and even the crowd seemed pretty small. We really hope that the organisers will focus on inviting more visitors on top of getting food vendors.

Just four booths away laid a Turkish ice-cream vendor that arrived late in the afternoon. Our dear Adelene was finding it very challenging to resist the call of nice cold ice-cream amidst the hot afternoon. As she waited for her ice-cream, the Turkish ice-cream man bedazzled her with some tricks. Unfortunately, her anticipation was dampened by tasteless goat ice-cream. Luckily, she had our Fruitty Satay to top her ice-cream with and managed to finish the ice-cream. We thought that Turkish ice-cream was pretty bad but it could be just this one.

Soon after, Joycelyn from Gone Fishing cafe dropped by to lend us a hand and support.

Overall, we did not make much sales but  we learnt alot. We will be applying this to our next flea market and hope to increase our sales.

Our luck temporarily turned when Delcie won a $50 cash voucher from their lucky draw! However, amidst the excitement, she forgot to collect her Identity Card and had to drive all the way back on a Sunday night to retrieve it.

Kid loves our Fruitty Satay!

This is our Malay neighbour who offered more than 30 varieties of traditional yummy-looking malay kueh that were selling like hot cakes! So finally until 5pm, we decided that we couldn’t resist the temptation any more and decided to try a few. We felt that it could have tasted better. I wished she put in more filling in her kueh; maybe they might have tasted better.

In fact, if you were to ask me about the difference between a cupcake and a muffin, I would conclude that the proportion of the ingredients used in each cake is different; the texture is different, the sweetness content is different and the appearance is also different.

Generally, you will find muffins mostly in cafes. They are best eaten warm with butter and a cup of cuppa.

As for cupcakes, they are more fanciful and sweeter, mainly top with decorations and colourful frosting.

Let’s talk about the ingredients:

• They both uses same type of ingredients namely: butter, sugar, eggs, milk, flour and vanilla essence.
• Both require oven to bake
• The difference lies in the proportion of the ingredients in each cake.
• Muffins would require more air incorporated into the mixture for it to rise nicely. Baking powder is commonly used.
• More milk/liquid is also used in muffins to give a denser (heavier) texture.
• If you were to notice, muffins require twice the flour and lesser sugar content than cupcakes.

Cupcakes Ingredients:
100g Flour
75g Sugar
75g Butter
1 Egg
1-2 tbsp Fresh Milk
1 tsp Vanilla Essence

Muffins Ingredients (makes around 6 muffins):
200g Flour
50g Sugar
75g Butter
1 Egg
100-150ml Fresh Milk
1 tsp Vanilla Essence
1 tsp Baking Powder
