The season of giving is back! After struggling with 1 year of running a bakery business, there were pain in losing my dearest mother and having to cope it while running a business. I still think of her every single day ever since she left me that April Fool morning. But, there were also gains in multiple friendships and support from all, especially to my Delcie’s Desserts supporters who left me sweet complimentary testimonials that had motivated me to work harder despite the bumps I encountered over the year.

Every Christmas, without fail, I would bake my almost “famous” Honey Dipped Fruit Cake and give them to friends. This year, I’m breaking my tradition by selling my fruit cake to the public. This recipe was given to me by my Secondary School Home Economic teacher and ever since, I’ve been baking this every year, changing the recipe each time I baked them and finally, baking it to perfection 5 years ago. Close friends can never stop raving about this christmas cake and always wonder why I don’t sell them on my website?

I asked myself the same question too. Perhaps, it’s time to put this fruit cake to the public’s test.

Friends claimed that my fruit cake are extremely moist and every bite is bursting with fruits unlike many others which they bought in the bakery store. The fragrance of the cake never fails to sweep them off their feet when they opened up the wrapper or box that kept the fruit cake fresh within.

As I don’t normally bake my fruit cake with alcohol, I would usually recommend my alcoholic friends the Delcie’s DIY fool-proof way in turning this fruit cake stench with alcohol  (even Mark and Spencer does it!). So, a simple instruction will be attached to my fruit cake for the alcoholic ones. Sorry that I don’t bake with alcohol as no alcohol content is ever allowed to enter my baking studio kitchen or fridge. I’m still in the process of getting my Halal Certification and I really need it for the bakery, so I can’t afford to screw this up.

Anyway, with or without alcohol, my friends finally coax me into selling it and even put their guarantee stamp on my fruit cake’s smell, taste, look and texture. Hehe! ;P

It was one of those days again where I woke up with a very bad feeling in my stomach. I wasn’t having a diarrhea but I had a sixth sense that it will be a very bad day for me. -.-”

As I walked out of my house, all tidy and ready for a presentation to a  group of McDonald’s managers, I thought it will be a great day!

When I approached the train station trying to dig for my handphone, I realised I left it at home. I battled whether to head home for the phone, or maybe not. So I decided with my journey to National Library thinking I would be able to survive a day without the phone.

So, while on the train trying to picture myself in the classroom, I came to a realisation that I DID NOT HAVE THE DESSERTS WITH ME!!

I can’t believe it at all! Deep within me, I was ranting at myself for being so forgetful and the next thing was trying find a solution out from this situation.

One one hand, I am obligated to bring the desserts. On the other, I was going to be really late if I head home. I needed a plan fast. In that split second, I wonder if it would be easy to grab a cab from Orchard cause I was already there.

Telling myself to go with my guts, I hopped off the train and went straight up to the nearest exit for a cab. At the same time, cursing and swearing at myself for having such bad luck.

The taxi uncle flew me back home and throughout the whole journey, I had to comfort myself that everything will be fine despite my early morning trauma.

In the end, I made it to the library in one piece and meeting the group of students made me calm down a little. Frankly speaking, I had done this numerous times while teaching in community centres and giving presentation to students, so this will be a breeze to me.

Going through the presentation was like vomiting my life experience to them but deep inside, I seriously wondered if I’ve bored them a whole lot talking about myself. I mean, come on, who would like to listen to another talking about him or herself all the time. Everyone need that 1 minute for fame right?
