Vernetta Lopez at SOE workshop

Last week, a free ticket was given to me by my friend, Matt, where he won a pair of tickets for this seminar organized by the Spirit of Enterprise, simply by twittering. I didn’t understand the power of twitter despite him explaining the concept numerous times. Finally, I realise that it is a much more powerful tool than MSN or Facebook. Surprising but true.

I did at the back of my mind dread to attend this seminar as there was so much things to do after the launch. But I told myself, I should go and see what I’ll be able to bring back from the workshop. So after my mad rushing of baking and spraying water to clean up the studio kitchen, I hop on to the bus and relieved that I was only 5 mins late.

Nonetheless, I made it there and was surprise to see Kelly there as well. She’s the Executive Director of the Spirit of Enterprise and only then, I realised this workshop was organized by them.

Well, I guess the highlight was the chance to meet Vernetta Lopez. She was the guest speaker of the day to share her experience of setting up her own business. She is currently running her own wedding planning business. Indeed, a nice lady and sharing person whom I’ve always enjoyed meeting. It is also because these people do exist, that have encouraged me to share and give even more to the people around me.

I know there are and will be people who are just “blood suckers” – those who will only take but never give. And even despite this, I still strongly believe in the philosophy of giving. As what Winston Churchill did once said, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” and similarly to what my parents has always taught me, “what goes around, comes around.”

Although sometimes, I do get really disappointed with people who ask for so much but contribute so little. I’m usually annoyed and wish I never knew them. But when I stood back and looked at them, I felt really sorry because they know so little of the happiness of giving.

Hmm.. I think I’m getting abit too deep into the subject.

So in the end, I brought back not just the photo of Vernetta Lopez and me, I also brought back my fighting spirit to overcome my own business challenges and the “blood suckers”.
